As we wrote earlier, Tom Tancredo is headed to New Hampshire next month with Team America PAC partner Bay Buchanan to spread his immigration message. We've now received word, thanks to John DiStaso's column in the Manchester Union-Leader, that Team America PAC has brought on veteran New Hampshire conservative activist Paul Nagy as coordinator.
According to PoliticsNH.com, Nagy has been around the NH scene for a long time and is tied to the Sununu family. He also started a PAC in 2002 called NHWins to promote expanded gambling in the state.
We don't know if Nagy is just fronting the trip for Tancredo in February or if he's taking on a more active role in the Team America PAC, yet his involvement piques our interest. Tancredo has stated the NH trip, and presumably others in the future to key primary states, does not indicate he's taking the "Tancredo For President" internet buzz seriously. His goal is to raise the issue of immigration in these states so it becomes an important issue during the 2008 Republican Presidential primary battle.
As we're certain our dwindling readership is aware, though, if you're going to mount a bid for President, one of the first things you want to do is start to court people on the ground in Iowa and New Hampshire. And, another rule is when in New Hampshire, get noticed by John DiStaso.
We'll take Tom at his word for now that his trip is nothing more than an effort to raise the immigration issue in key states so it's on the agenda for 2008. And, we'll believe that hiring a veteran NH operative and getting your name twice in NH's top political news source is also part of this effort.
By the way, does anyone else find it kind of funny that Tom Tancredo's PAC shares the same name as the recent movie from Colorado's bad boys, Trey Parker and Matt Stone? Is "Putting the F back in Freedom!" the new slogan for the Team America PAC?
