Mark Udall was quoted in today's Rocky Mountain News story about Joel Hefley and the spotlight he's been under lately because of his role as Chairman of the Ethics Committee. In the story, our countdown's principal said of Hefley:
"Joel's steady," said U.S. Rep. Mark Udall, an Eldorado Springs Democrat, who considers Hefley a mentor. "He has integrity. You know where he stands. He doesn't play games. He is, of course, not flashy. . . . In the end, he looks out for the institution, and the institution is much bigger than any of us."
The logical side of our brain says that Representative Udall is doing nothing more than honoring the tradition of Congressional courtesy, especially to a fellow member of the Colorado delegation. But, the more conspiratorial side of our brain says "Wait! If Udall is going to run for Governor, he's going to need to appeal to Republicans in Colorado. No better time than now to start saying nice things about a Republican member of Congress!"
We'll let you decide.
