We hear that Republican State Senator Tom Wiens (South Douglas County, El Paso County, Teller County etc.) is seriously considering a run for governor.
How plausible is this? We'll admit to not knowing a ton about Wiens, but a Republican winning a Republican seat doesn't really forecast much about his political future. He also just got elected to the Senate in 2004, which makes a run for governor seem a little early. If he's going to do it, he's going to have to get in the race pretty soon - and then how does he explain abandoning the seat he was elected to serve after just two years?
Wiens looks like a guy who is doing the right things to run for statewide office at some point, and he made an effort to try to increase his name ID in surrounding areas while he was running for State Senate by putting yard signs in areas that weren't in his district. But governor in 2006? That could be a bit of a stretch.
