According to our fellow blogger on the right, Clay Calhoun, State Senator Mark Hillman announced his intentions to run for State Treasurer in 2006.
This is a smart move by Hillman to get out early. The State Treasurer race is a lot of statewide work for a relatively small prize, though most candidates hope to benefit from the name recognition gathered by traveling around Colorado and use it for a bigger race in the future (that was the idea for Mike Coffman, although it hasn't worked out like he had planned it). If you are a Republican thinking about this race, not only do you have to decide if it is worth the effort, you also have to decide if it is worth the risk now that another strong candidate has announced; because if you lose a primary for State Treasurer, your political juice dries up fast.
Now, who's going to be the Democratic opponent? Chris Romer, son of former Governor Roy Romer, has long been rumored to be the frontrunner (meaning: only person really interested) in the State Treasurer race, but we've heard lately that his enthusiasm has waned somewhat. This one might make sense for State Senator Ken Gordon, who can raise the money to be competitive in a statewide race and is known to have higher ambitions. Gordon has also been rumored for Secretary of State, but State Treasurer makes more sense; it's the same amount of work, but for a better job.
Real Deal we need to do some serious house cleaning in the GOP. The 96 hour team was a wreck and a of ton of races were lost around the state that should not have been, including Mr. Coors' race. Wake up guys if we want to "take over the next election" we need to start pinpointing just who screwed it up.

uh Rocky...that would be the Governor.
Posted by: Keith | April 28, 2005 at 11:09 AM
Even the Governor admits that: he splintered the Party with the Schaffer debacle and managed to recruit a poor candidate in the process. He took the blame - fell on his sword - and we should let it go.
In terms of 96 Hours, we all know the logistical failure that occured and the GOP Party will fix it, no doubt.
Hans knows what he's doing. Scott will be let go. Chuck has found a new home, and Colin is in the Private Sector. The losers will be totally gone 16 months from now.
Let's move on, too.

Where did Chuck land?
Posted by: gop | April 28, 2005 at 11:23 AM
He's found a friend in Schuck and Cranberg.

Way to blame it all on the governor... maybe you were at fault as well
Posted by: Rocky | April 28, 2005 at 12:57 PM
Rocky. It was the Governor's bad. Get over it. Move on. We have a house and senate to win.
Posted by: Keith | April 28, 2005 at 01:00 PM
For once Rocky we agree. It was not the governors fault that we did as poorly as we did, it was because of people like Keith, Red Hawk and alot of other people who were more concerned about getting their feelings hurt than contributing to winning R elections.
It is easy to blame one person. Keith usually does sum all of his arguments up WAY to easily. My suprise is that repub is still way too bitter, maybe he is one of the Dem "operatives".
I will be the first to admit that there is alot of blame to be thrown around, (especially with 96 hour) but it is a mute point at this particular time. If we band together, winners and loosers (excluding Schaffer's lackeys) we will win back the legislature, the gov, and be able to focus where it really matters: Allard's seat, then Salazar's seat, and then the congrssional races.
Rocky, why don't you pinpoint here exactly who screwed up.

There you go again, Real Deal. Making stupid assumptions and dividing the Party are your talent on this blog. You're not posting on a Government Computer, are you? Because that would certanily be a mis-use of State Resources... FOIA here we come.

Real Deal- I am simple. Thats why I sum up my arguements way too easily. I bore easily. I find your name calling (Schaffer's lackeys) to be sophmoric.
I speak in bullets, while you run on like a pinpointing pinhead.

He'd be proud - wouldn't he? All his little staffers posting on blogs all day.
Can we just move on... nothing to see here.

Real Deal you have a great point. And I am not going to pinpoint exact names because the people who screwed up know what they did. Keith my god do you know how to only post once? And to govstaff--- not schaffer's staff, and this oh wait there is something to see here.

sorry about the multi post My machine kept hanging and I didn't realize the first post stuck.
I'll get off here because the name calling and pinpointing does bore me.

Anybody else notice that the Miles/Salazar people have stopped their bickering here, but the Shaffer/Coors people continue to bicker? Or really, just one or two Coors people who insist on continuing to divide (Real Deal).
Not productive, really.

Thank you watcher! My point exactly the REAL Coors Schaffer teams quit fighting long ago and are focused on winning across the board. The "Coors/Schaffer" folks on this site MUST be democrat operatives trying to stir the nest, trying to distract the GOP, trying to create press like they did at the President Social Security event. Remember Republicans this site is financed and run by Democrats....DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!
