There seems to be a shake-up brewing in El Paso County.
State Representative Lynn Hefley has been answering the question concerning a potential run against fellow Dave Schultheis (for S.D. 9) with “I’m considering it.”
Her reasoning: Schultheis is quickly becoming a “one issue” legislator, she better represents the District, and the rumors concerning Joel’s impending retirement are “nothing but fabrications” (meaning since he has a job, she wants one, too.)
Though El Paso is well know for bitter primaries, the real surprise here seems to be that Lynn believes she more accurately represents the values, ideals and politics of SD 9. Apparently solid in her vote record this session - she even voted in favor of HB 1194 - it has been well understood in the Hard Core County that Lynn is really the Moderate of the District.
The fallout of a potential shuffle could prove to be disastrous. The Republican (Conservative) Base has long depended on at least one El Paso Senate Seat to drive the Agenda in Colorado. Doug Lamborn has been largely effective in that cause, but would Hefley follow suit? Doubtful.
Which means the kooks will start watching her very closely…
