Reports out today indicate the next Senate Minority Leader may indeed be Andy McElhany. The El Paso County Legislator is receiving written commitments from his supporters; Senators May, Jones, Lamborn, Brophy (that’s a nice ring), Mitchell and Spence have all guaranteed their votes to Andy. Steve Johnson, on the other hand, has one less vote – with Entz, Kester, Taylor, Teck and (maybe) Owen pledging support. And as for the Douglas County Senator John Evans, he has a whopping three votes, with his, Wiens and Dyer.
With Evans assuredly dropping out after the first vote, Dyer is expected to go to McElhany – Evans and Wiens will barter for their support and likely go to Johnson – leaving the final deciding vote to, of course, Norma Anderson.
Anderson isn’t saying who she’ll be voting for, but those close to the Senator say she’s leaning toward McElhany; he has no election this cycle, whereas Johnson has a fight coming up, and he’ll need to focus on his own race instead of dealing with caucus business.
If Anderson and Dyer go to McElhany as expected, Andy will be leading the charge in the Senate, after all.
This is great news for the Republicans. McElhany is sharp, committed, and honest. Johnson is a good guy, but McElhany will take back the Senate.

Wiens is an idiot if he doesn't go to Andy instead of Steve. Technically, Tom represents a portion of El Paso County (Monument and the far west) - and needs to explain to us down here just why he hasn't been supporting McElhany from the beginning, but now he'll also need to explain why he has no loyalty at all to El Paso.

Weins will go with McElhany. Tom was one of the nine heroes’ in the Senate that voted against Ref. C and D. He will not let the sponsor of Ref C become the voice for the Republican Party in the State Senate.

But don't forget that it was John Evans who promised his Leadership vote to Hillman but then brokered a deal and went with Norma, instead. You can't *count* on his vote.

Guess what ElPaso, Wiens is an idiot.

McElhaney can't get to nine votes, guys, if he could he would have already. Do the math. He's done.

Plus, Republican Senators are too stupid to pick Johnson, someone who could actually increase the appeal of the party to the voters!!!
