Peter Blake's Rocky Mountain News column contains an item that Colorado Pols readers already knew earlier this week (Tuesday to be exact): Marc Holtzman has filed a committee to explore running for Governor. Pete fills in the news with some quotes from Holtzman, including this gem:
"There's no front bench for either party," he [Holtzman] said Friday, meaning someone with no elective record, like himself, stands a better chance.
Pete kindly points out that Mike Coffman and Jane Norton might disagree with this comment. We'd also guess that, despite our contention Bobby Beauprez and Colorado's senior Senator will be staying put in 2006, they consider themselves "front bench" material in the Grand Ol' Party. Depending on how everything shakes out for the Elephants, Marc may want to limit the braggadocio a bit.
And, unless he stands up tomorrow and says "I'm not running for Governor in 2006" and puts all the chatter to rest, there's a certain Denver Mayor who's is the entire front bench of both parties.
Stay tuned for the Governor Line update this weekend.
