In an effort to inform the citizens of Colorado about dumb things other state legislatures are doing, we turn our attention today to Virginia. On Tuesday, the Virginia State House of Delegates passed legislation slapping a $50 fine on anyone who displays their underwear in a "lewd of indecent manner."
The target of this legislative effort? Kids following the fashion trend of wearing pants so low their underwear shows.
It might not be the equivalent of North Korea's recent campaign to get men to cut their hair, which features the winning slogan: "Let us trim our hair in accordance with Socialist lifestyle." But, drafting, debating and ultimately passing legislation to fine kids because they are wearing their pants too low strikes us an incredible waste of time.
