In a serious blow to Congressman Bob Beauprez's gubernatorial hopes, the Rocky Mountain News is reporting that John Elway plans to stump for Marc Holtzman in the 2006 governor's race...
Okay, so it's not that big of a deal. Elway was listed on Holtzman's early list of contributors, and the News' society/gossip columnist Penny Parker reports:
Not only is Elway giving money, an insider says, the QB signed up for the statewide motor home whistle-stop campaign tour Holtzman and pals are planning. Which cities the Hall of Famer will visit with his chosen candidate isn't set, yet.
This little tidbit is interesting, however, in that Holtzman is planning major statewide tours in which he'll tug Elway along for the media blitz. A few weeks ago Holtzman went out of his way to say that he was not formally running for governor - only that he was considering running for governor.
Well, consider him running for governor.
Sign me up for driver on the Elway RV tour, that would be amazing, nice hit for Holtzman hope people ask for his autograph too.

Don't Republicans lambaste Democrats for taking endorsements and money from Hollywood? I guess it's okay if it's a jock though?
I know, I know. Everybody does it. It just amazes me that someone would vote for a candidate because an ex-jock, or an entertainer, or a pundit, says to do so.
Regardless, the biggest advantage in getting Elway to sign on is the money he'll bring - not that it was enough for Pete Coors. But it will probably come down to money, barring any skeletons that should pop out of either candidate's closet.

The reason people trust Elway is because he is a car salesman, not because he is a ex-jock.

Who cares, except for the 80% of Colorado who can't name an elected official below Senator. Smart move when Elway goes out to Delta or Lamar the crowds will be huge, otherwise Holtzman would be begging folks to come with cold hotdogs and warm beer. Good earned media hit today as well. Holtzman is proving himself to be more savey then many of us gave him credit to be. The Democrats can get Robert Redford for their Gov. candidate for his annual treck to CU whooopeeeeee!

Although it's not unusual for Elway to give to Republican candidates, I will believe it when I see it if he actually stumps for Holtzman or does a fundraiser for him. Those would be a first for Elway (except for an appearance on stage with Bush last year).

Holtzman is so slippery, I doubt even John Elway's presence will help once people see who this guy really is.

Yes that is correct. I liked your comment. I too belong to the same profile and this was of great help.
