It looks like we can take a name off of the list for Senator Mark Hillman's replacement now that the Senate Minority Leader has been appointed state treasurer.
Representative Diane Hoppe has apparently decided to retire rather than run (and ask for the appointment) for Hillman's state senate seat, according to The Journal Advocate of Sterling, Colorado:
Hoppe said Saturday that she will not seek appointment to the District 1 Senate seat that was vacated last week by Mark Hillman. Nor will she run for the Senate in next year's primary or general elections. "I plan to serve out my current term, then look for something else, probably in the area of natural resources," said Hoppe, who is prevented by term limits from seeking another House term.
Hoppe's retirement should solidify the Senate appointment for Representative Greg Brophy, as Colorado Pols and Red Hawk speculated last week. According to The Advocate, a vacancy committee is scheduled to meet on Sunday to make the appointment.
Here's to Represen...Senator Brophy!!!
As much as some Dems out there may dilike his strong conservative views, he is a smart, intelligent, well-spoken, and considerate member of the legislature.
I'm not from SD 1, but I'll be glad to see Brophy as a member of the Senate.
